29th June Tuesday 11am
Our boat has been a much loved treasure, for many years now, for our crew mates (children) that love to play on the deck at The Wild Playground! Unfortunately our beloved boat is shipwrecked! It did not survive the winter storms and is now landbound and inaccessible to our pirate friends (children)!
Help us return our boat to it’s former glory and join in on our sponsored walk to help cover the costs of fixing it up ready for sail again this summer!
Sign ups for the walk per family will start at £5 but there will be options to donate more. The money from the these ticket sales will be used entirely as a donation for the boat (minus the minimal PayPal’s booking fee)
You are encouraged to get others to sponsor you on your walk and will be sent an document to print out to get sponsors.
We will meet at Dock Park and walk up to Castle Dykes and to the Crichton gardens all the way to Carmont House in the Crichton Estates where we will have a celebration.
If you would just like to donate without taking part please do so from on our GoFundMe.
A bit about the boat
The boat at the Wild Playground was built many years ago for the land owners own children. Since then the boat has been played on by hundreds of children across the region going to events held by Nest Nurturing Futures which is a not for profit community interest company and also other company’s and charities that have used the site including Kid’s Ahoy Nursery. The boat is a large play equipment with 2 upper decks and two lower deck rooms and a slide attached with a flag. The boat overlooks the beautiful site of the wild playground and the hills and forests surrounding, as well as being a fantastic play equipment for children which creates amazing childhood memories, adults also can enjoy the scenery from the top decks.
Nest Nurturing Futures CIC will use the money donated on paying to get the boat fixed so the children in our community can play on the ship once more. Playing on the boat has been a favourite activity for the children and it supports physical wellbeing with climbing the decking, sliding and running around the ship, it also supports mental wellbeing as it encourages imagination and supports team playing with improves confidence, self-esteem and social skills.
Unfortunately the boat took a hit over the last year with the weather and due to COVID our activities have been minimal and we have not been able to earn enough funds to keep up with maintenance costs of the boat. Please help us bring back this amazing experience to the children of Dumfries and Galloway by donating what you can to save our boat.
Any extra funds gained will be used to add extra bonuses to the ship such as- a steering wheel, a lockout with telescope and a custom made flag- made by our nature schooler’s. Extra funds beyond that will be used to host a free Pirate Adventure Event for all our donators and their families. Any extra after this will be put back into the The Wild Playground for other projects chosen by our users.
